FAQs
Why should my child take swim lessons year-round?
Swim lessons are crucial year-round, not just seasonally! Offering lessons throughout the year allows students to consistently improve their swimming skills and water safety knowledge. Our flexible scheduling means lessons can fit conveniently into your routine, with the option to adjust times as needed. Importantly, participating in regular swim lessons reduces the risk of drowning by 88% in children aged 1 to 4 years. Swimming isn’t just a sport—it’s a vital life skill and the most important one your child can learn.
What is the Superstar Method?
The Superstar Method is our unique approach to swimming instruction, designed to motivate, inspire, engage, and empower every swimmer. We focus on making each lesson enjoyable and exciting, helping swimmers of all levels unlock their potential and embrace the joy of swimming. Our method is progress-based and tailored to each swimmer’s personal development, emphasizing foundational skills, safety, and the fun of learning. We teach all four competitive strokes—freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly—in a structured yet captivating way, ensuring that learning to swim is not just effective but also a delightful experience.
How long are swimming lessons?
All swimming lessons at FINTASTIC Swim Academy are 30 minutes in duration. This time frame is designed to maximize learning and retention while keeping swimmers engaged and energized throughout the session.
When can I sign up for lessons?
You can sign up for lessons at any time! Our swim lessons are offered continuously throughout the year, rather than in separate sessions. This consistent, ongoing approach helps develop swim skills and enhances water safety awareness effectively. Remember, swim lessons save lives, so it’s never too late to start.
Do I need to change classes when my child progresses to a new level?
We strive to maintain your current class schedule when your child moves up a level. If the same day and time are unavailable for the new level, we’ll collaborate with you to find an alternative that fits your schedule seamlessly. This ensures a smooth transition and continued progress in swim training.
How do I change the date and time of my lessons?
To change your lesson schedule, you can either contact our front desk team or easily adjust your enrollment directly through our app. We’re here to help ensure your scheduling needs are met conveniently and efficiently.
Do you offer makeup classes for missed swim lessons?
Yes, we certainly offer makeup classes! If you anticipate missing a class, please inform us through our app. Once your original class has passed, you’re eligible to schedule a makeup lesson. You can book this up to one week in advance and have up to 90 days to use it. This flexibility ensures you won’t miss out on your swim progress!
Do I always get the same coach?
Your swimmer may experience different coaches from time to time due to the dynamic nature of scheduling and availability. All our coaches are trained and certified in-house, ensuring they teach consistently according to the Superstar Method. While the specific coach may change, the quality and effectiveness of the lessons remain consistently high. Our program is designed to deliver exceptional swim lessons based on the level of skill rather than the individual coach.
How long will it take for my child to level up?
The time it takes for a child to progress through the levels at FINTASTIC Swim Academy varies as each child develops at their own pace. Like everything in life, mastering swimming skills takes time, practice, consistency, and patience. Swimming is a life-saving skill, and our goal is to ensure every child builds a strong foundation. You are welcome to request an evaluation for your child during their lesson at any time. Our FINtastic staff can provide detailed information on what your swimmer needs to do to advance to the next level.
What is the youngest age a child can be enrolled at FINTASTIC Swim Academy?
Children as young as 2 months old are welcome to begin their swimming journey at FINTASTIC Swim Academy. We provide specialized baby lessons tailored for ages 2 months to 3 years, focusing on early water familiarity and safety skills.
At what age do parents not have to get in the water with their child?
Parents are not required to be in the water with their children once they reach three years old. At this age, we evaluate each swimmer’s readiness to join group classes independently by arranging a trial session. This assessment checks if the swimmer can sit during lessons, follow directions, and adhere to pool safety rules. It ensures that the child is prepared to safely participate in swim lessons on their own, fostering independence while upholding our stringent safety and learning standards. Please note that some swimmers may need more time to progress to this level of independence.
Can I request a specific coach?
While we understand your preference for specific coaches, we cannot guarantee their availability due to scheduling constraints. However, rest assured that every coach at FINTASTIC Swim Academy is thoroughly trained to provide exceptional instruction. Our coaches are skilled and passionate, ensuring high-quality lessons regardless of who leads the class. We encourage you to give your new coach a try and see how the lesson goes. We are always here to assist and meet your needs.
Why is my child doing the same thing repeatedly in swim lessons?
Mastery in swimming requires repetition. By consistently practicing the same drills, swimmers refine their techniques, build muscle memory, and gain confidence. This repetition is crucial for developing proficiency and ingraining fundamental skills. Our Superstar Method is specifically designed to enhance muscle memory and develop strong swimming skills, ensuring that each swimmer achieves a solid foundation for advanced techniques.
Why is my child in the same class as a swimmer of a different age?
At FINTASTIC Swim Academy, we prioritize skill level over age when grouping swimmers. This approach ensures that all participants are at similar developmental stages, creating a more effective and supportive learning environment. If you have any concerns or questions about the class arrangements, please feel free to speak with our staff. We are here to assist and find the best possible setting for your swimmer.
Is my potty-trained child allowed to swim without a diaper?
Children who have been accident-free for the past six months are permitted to swim without a diaper. However, to ensure the safety and cleanliness of our facility for all patrons, we recommend double diapering. In the event of an accident without proper double protection, a $350 fee will be applied. We strongly encourage double diapering to help prevent incidents and maintain a hygienic environment for everyone.
My child is crying and hesitant to join the group class. What should I do?
It’s not uncommon for children up to 4.5 years old to experience separation anxiety or feel hesitant about joining group classes. To help ease this transition, we recommend considering our Mini Star 4 or private lessons. These options provide a more supportive environment where your child can gradually become comfortable and confident in the water without a parent nearby. This gentle approach is designed to foster independence and build trust in young swimmers.
Can I enroll my child without completing a trial lesson?
Yes, you can enroll your child directly. Our coaches will evaluate your swimmer during their first lesson to assess their skills and place them in the appropriate class level. This ensures that your child starts at the right pace for their swimming journey.
How long do FINTASTIC swim lessons last, and when do they end?
At FINTASTIC Swim Academy, our lessons are ongoing rather than seasonal. You can continue your swim lessons for as long as you like; they will run until you decide to discontinue your enrollment. We offer seven different levels, allowing swimmers to progress at their own pace and ensuring that each participant finds the right fit for their skills and goals.

How does my child progress to the next level?
At FINTASTIC Swim Academy, we ensure that every swimmer’s progress is assessed systematically to provide them with the best opportunities for advancement. Here’s how the progression works:
- Progress Assessment Schedule: Every 8 weeks, we conduct a ‘Progress Week,’ during which your swimmer will be tested to see if they are ready to move up to the next level.
- Criteria for Advancement:
- Star 1-5 Swimmers: To progress to the next level, swimmers must master all safety drills and unassisted drills. Mastery of these skills ensures that they are prepared for the challenges of the next level.
- Star 6 Swimmers: Swimmers at this level must demonstrate proficiency in all four strokes and successfully complete four laps in Individual Medley (I.M.) order to advance. This assessment ensures that they have the endurance and skill necessary for competitive swimming.
- Monitoring and Communication:
- Skill Tree Report: You can track your swimmer’s progress through the Skill Tree Report available in your Parent Portal App. This report details the skills learned and what needs further improvement.
- Coach’s Discretion: If a coach observes that your swimmer is ready to move up to the next level before the scheduled Progress Week, our front desk staff will notify you accordingly. This allows for timely recognition of your swimmer’s advancement.
- Patience and Practice:
- Developmental Time: Like everything in life, mastering new swimming skills takes time, practice, and patience. Do not expect your swimmer to level up every 8 weeks; learning and mastering new drills is a gradual process.
- Continuous Progress: Remember, every lesson contributes to your child’s growth as a swimmer. Even if they do not move up immediately, they are becoming safer and more confident in the water with each session.
